Cynthia Barginere, DNP, RN, FACHE

Dr. Barginere is the Chief Operating Officer for the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI). Prior to joining IHI, she was Chief Transformation Officer/Senior Vice President at Rush University System for Health, where she was responsible for extending the system’s reach and operationalizing clinical service lines. Dr. Barginere joined Rush in 2011 as Chief Nursing Officer and Associate Dean for Nursing Practice; she became Chief Operating Officer of Rush University Hospital in 2015. The enduring impact of her leadership can be seen in Rush’s fourth and fifth designation as a Magnet Hospital. Dr. Barginere previously served as COO and CNO at Baptist Medical Center South and Associate Executive Director and CNO at the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham. She received a B.S. in Nursing from the University of Alabama–Tuscaloosa, a M.S. in Nursing Administration from the University of Alabama–Birmingham, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Samford University in Birmingham. She serves on the board of the DAISY Foundation.


Carolyn Candiello, MA, CPHRM

Ms. Candiello is the Vice President of Quality and Patient Safety at Greater Baltimore Medical Center. Ms. Candiello has served in healthcare her entire career. She is passionate about quality, patient safety and performance excellence and has helped guide GBMC to achieve the 2020 National Malcolm Baldrige Quality Award. She has served as both a state and national Baldrige examiner. She is actively involved in the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s Leadership Alliance and is currently working to improve health equity. She has a MA degree in Leadership/Management from Notre Dame of Maryland University and a BS degree in Business from Fitchburg State University.


Larry Hearld, PhD

Dr. Hearld is an Associate Professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Director of the Ph.D. Program in Administration-Health Services. He is currently the co-editor of Health Care Management Review and serves on the editorial board of Medical Care Research and Review. His research focuses on the antecedents and consequences of organizational change in health care, with special emphasis on dissemination and implementation science in health care. He has been a PI and co-I on NIH-, AHRQ-, PCORI-, and foundation-funded studies that examine the dissemination and implementation of quality improvement processes and innovative care delivery models within hospitals, primary care organizations, and local communities. This research utilizes a range of methodological approaches, including effectiveness-implementation hybrid designs, mixed methods, and quasi-experimental designs. He currently teaches courses in research methods, organizational behavior, and dissemination / implementation science.


Jennifer Strahan, DSc, MS, FACHE, LSSMBB

Dr. Strahan currently serves as President & CEO of J. Osley & Company and Visiting Assistant Professor at Georgia State University, Robinson College of Business Throughout her career, she has guided organizations to improve quality, access, efficiency, and cost while unifying teams and achieving multimillion-dollar ROI within Healthcare and Communities. Dr. Strahan previously served as Chief Operating Officer for SOAR Vision Group; System Executive Director with WellStar Health System; Director for VHA Georgia (now Vizient Southern States); and Consultant with the Advisory Board Company. Jennifer earned a Doctor of Science from the University of Alabama–Birmingham, a MS from Dartmouth College, a BS from the University of South Alabama, and her Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt from The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business and Moresteam. She is also a Fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives.
